The Olive B. Cole Foundation is offering up to $10,000 (up to $2,500 per year) to local Noble County students. This scholarship is facilitated by Questa Education Foundation.
Students who live in Noble County for at least two years or graduate from a local high school. Funding may be used for certificate programs, associate degrees, or bachelor’s degrees.

The Al Bailey Vocational Scholarship is named in honor of Al Bailey, a beloved shop teacher and coach at Manchester Junior Senior High School for over 25 hours. This scholarship is meant to encourage post-secondary study in a vocational field, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, advanced manufacturing, mechanics, machining, or welding.

After her untimely death in a car accident when she was 17, the family of Briannon Joelle Curless established a scholarship in 2005, in her name, to keep Briannon’s memory alive and carry on the meaning of her life and her motto of “be kind to everyone; judge no one.” Briannon was an inquisitive student, a leader in student government, a hard worker at the public library, a dedicated church-goer, a lover of dance and tae kwon do, and a selfless volunteer, giving her time to the LIFE Center and her church. In school, Casey Sparling was a hard working student, a three-sport athlete, and a guy with a terrific attitude. He was also ambitious. While still in college, he helped coach his beloved Northfield baseball team. At the time of his death, his friends and family established a scholarship in his memory that would encourage students just like Casey to go to college. The recipient will have a commitment to sports similar to Casey’s; be a two or more sport athlete in high school graduating from NHS in the current year. The recipient will also have a positive attitude and reputation as a team player on and off the field.

Gene Custer is a lifelong Wabash County resident and farmer and a generous supporter of charitable causes. Gene established the Custer Scholarship Fund to help deserving students pursue post-secondary education. The award is given based on work experience or engagement in extra-curricular school, religious, or community activities; and a character of talent, ambition, initiative, and kindness. The Jerry Radabaugh Memorial Scholarship supports students who graduate from Southwood High School or Northfield High School and who plan to study engineering, pharmacy, or building construction management. Mr. Radabaugh, whose family established this scholarship in 2007, was a builder and a building trades instructor at Heartland Career Center. He had degrees in civil engineering, architecture, and vocational education. His children, who are also honored by this scholarship endowment, have careers in pharmacy and engineering. Jerry cared deeply about the lives of young people and their education. He was also very devoted to 4-H.

Kathleen Daywalt created this scholarship in honor of her husband to provide educational scholarships to Wabash High School graduates who are pursuing a career in Pharmacy

Mrs. Kester began teaching physical education at Manchester High School in the late 1950s when few sporting opportunities were available to young women. She was the champion of girls’ sports before Manchester High School had a varsity program for girls. In the early sixties, she established a chapter of the Girls Athletic Association to even the playing field for girls and she dedicated many years to developing female sports.

Veteran teachers Pat and Steve Brubaker created this scholarship to encourage Northfield High School seniors to continue their education or skill training beyond high school. Selection of the recipient is based on financial need, character traits of compassion, kindness, and work ethic, school involvement, community service, and academic performance.

The Floretta A. Clancy Memorial Scholarship was established in 1974 as a memorial to Mrs. Floretta A. Clancy, a charter member of the Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Mrs. Clancy was a dedicated teacher who sought to enhance the lives of all who came under her tutelage. It is the intention of the sorority that the scholarship be made available to students of African American heritage, male or female, who have demonstrated academic promise, community involvement, financial need, and are planning to pursue or continue education beyond high school at an accredited institution of higher education.
Students graduating, currently matriculating, and who have previously received awards are all eligible to apply.
This scholarship memorializes Russel and Reba Farlow who built a successful wood manufacturing business in southern Indiana. Farlows led the Indiana Handle Company that produced croquet sets, baseball bats, and woodturnings for many furniture manufacturers. Farlows’ son Bradley and his family, longtime residents of Wabash County, want to honor the work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit of the elder Farlows.
