CFWabash Dorothy Squires Memorial Scholarship

When Fred Squires retired, he was presented with a gift of money from his colleagues, which he used not for himself, but to establish a scholarship honoring his mother, Dorothy Squires, who taught English, journalism, and American history at Wabash and Northfield High Schools. This scholarship can be used for any field of study. This scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation of Wabash County.

  • Traditional students only

CFWabash Ella Truxell Baer Scholarship

Key dates & amount Closing 3/3/26

Established by Lulu Baer and Bess T. Baer, this scholarship is named for their mother, Ella Truxell Baer, who graduated from Wabash High School in 1872 and was one of the first two women to graduate from the school.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be graduates of Wabash High School
  • Traditional and nontraditional students may apply
  • Applicants must be pursuing a two- or four-year college degree at an accredited institution of higher education.

CFWabash Farlow Family Scholarship

This scholarship memorializes Russel and Reba Farlow who built a successful wood manufacturing business in southern Indiana. Farlows led the Indiana Handle Company that produced croquet sets, baseball bats, and woodturnings for many furniture manufacturers. Farlows’ son Bradley and his family, longtime residents of Wabash County, want to honor the work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit of the elder Farlows.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Southwood or Northfield High School graduate (current year)
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 on an 4.0 scale or equivalent
  • Must be pursuing a degree or industry recognized certification in manufacturing, trades, maintenance, or engineering

CFWabash Floyd O. Glass Scholarship

Floyd Glass was a teacher for many years in the south part of the county. Wanting to leave a legacy for Southwood High School students, Floyd Glass created a scholarship in his will in 1977 for students who not only excelled academically but who showed ability as leaders in their school and their community. Mr. Glass passed away in 1986 and soon after, Glass scholarships began to be awarded. Mr. Glass had a dream of helping students get a college education and become the leaders of tomorrow. Financial need as well as scholastic and leadership ability will be considered.

  • Enrolling in an accredited post-secondary educational institution

CFWabash Ford Family Community Scholarship

This scholarship, established by grandchildren of Wilbur and Florence Ford, honors Wilbur and Florence's deep commitments to their community through support for organizations, volunteering, and creating opportunities for future generations. The descendants of the Fords have carried on this legacy of community support and are providing a full tuition, four-year scholarship for a student of any Wabash County high school who has been actively involved in the betterment of Wabash County through extracurricular activities, volunteer service, and participation in community events. Students who wish to apply will be required to write an essay about the changes they would like to see in Wabash County and how they could turn their visions into reality.

  • Wabash County High School graduate
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must have actively been involved in the betterment of Wabash County through extracurricular activities, volunteer service, and participation in community events.

CFWabash Furel R. Burns Scholarship

The Furel R. Burns Business Scholarship was established in 1998 by Jean E. Paulus in memory of her father, Furel R. Burns. Mr. Burns was a successful businessman in North Manchester. He was the owner of Burns Bakery on Walnut Street just across from the Post Office. Mr. Burns was active in community affairs, a member of the North Manchester Rotary Club, and an active member of the American Bakers Association.

  • Manchester High School seniors excelling in business administration/management and planning to pursue the same in college

CFWabash Garth Eppley Scholarship

Laura and Bill Eppley and friends established this scholarship in 2008 to memorialize their son Garth and his love of life and music. Candidates for this scholarship will submit a pre-recorded audition. This scholarship is intended to be a four-year scholarship with proof of music study required at the beginning of each academic year. Awarded every four years, the scholarship was last awarded in 2021.

  • Wabash County high school graduate who plans to pursue undergraduate study in music or music education
  • Full or part-time student
  • Not a full tuition music scholarship recipient
  • Traditional or non-traditional student

CFWabash Gene L. and Bertha J. King Scholarship

The Gene L. and Bertha J. King Scholarship Endowment was created to honor the lives of Gene LaVere and Bertha Jane King. Mr. King’s career in the electricity industry spanned more 45 years and began with Wabash County REMC in 1963. Gene worked for the State of Indiana in job training and instruction before joining the Brownstown Electric Supply Company in 1983 where he served the company for 29 years as the northern Indiana sales representative. Mr. King was also a member of the U.S. Army and served in Germany for 11 months. The Kings, who were residents of Wabash County, wish to allow more students the opportunity to further their careers by helping to alleviate some of the financial burden of attending college. Selection of candidates is based on financial need, academic performance, religious activities, and a written statement.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduate of NHS, SHS, WHS, or White's Residential School in the current year
  • Maintained a "C" average or better
  • Planning to attend an Indiana public institution of higher learning on a full-time basis
  • Enrolling in a two or four-year degree program
  • Planning to study a pre-professional career such as education, teaching, law, medicine, pharmacy, science or engineering, but not a liberal arts major

CFWabash George W. and Donna Mae Russell Scholarship

George and Donna Russell wanted to make a difference for the future, so instead of investments for themselves, they invested in students who will go off to college and return with a good education and great ideas for their community. When George Russell died in 2001, he left part of a farm to the Community Foundation of Wabash County. The sale of the farm was used to establish an annual scholarship for a worthy student from a Wabash County high school who is pursuing a degree or a vocational education. Applicants are selected based on financial need, academic achievement, moral character, leadership, and attitude toward school and community.

  • Minimum GPA of "C" or higher
  • Traditional and nontraditional students

CFWabash Gerold "Doe" Faudree Athletic Scholarship

Gerold Faudree’s children established a scholarship in his name to honor his storied career as teacher and coach at Manchester High School. This scholarship combines the two together by awarding a scholarship to a Manchester High School scholar/athlete who is pursuing a career in teaching with an interest in coaching. Selection is based on athletic ability, academic performance, leadership skills, evidence of high moral and ethical standards, and financial need.

  • Manchester High School graduate (current year)
  • Full-time students pursuing a four-year undergraduate degree and pursuing a career in coaching and teaching from an accredited Indiana institution

CFWabash Harvey V. Underwood Science Scholarship

The Harvey V. Underwood Science Scholarship was established in 2003 by Harvey’s family, friends, and colleagues. Harvey V. Underwood began teaching at Manchester High School in the 1960s. He was a challenging teacher whose love of biology and curiosity about life was infectious. Selection will be based on academic performance (especially in science), community involvement, citizenship, character, and a written statement.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Manchester High School graduate (current year) or a previous year's scholarship recipient
  • Full-time student pursuing a four-year undergraduate degree in life science, physical science, or science education from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Minimum accumulated GPA of 7.0 on an 11.0 scale or the equivalent

CFWabash Heartland Career Center Scholarship

The Board of Managers of Heartland Career Center created a scholarship fund from the cash rent earnings on farm fields surrounding the school. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors to encourage them to attain post-secondary degree or career after high school. Recipients are selected on the basis of their mastery of skills in a career field, financial need, work ethic attested to by a letter of recommendation from a teacher or other adult, and an essay.

Eligibility Requirements

• Graduates of Heartland Career Center in the current school year
• Graduates of a Heartland-member school district
• Students who are accepted into and attend an accredited educational program, including two- or four year undergraduate programs or programs awarding industry-recognized certifications

CFWabash Isaac Conner Educational Scholarship

Isaac Conner grew up on a farm in the southern part of Wabash County. He planted a stone marker on the homestead to honor his mother and father and their hard work to develop the farm, but Conner himself left farming to become a teacher. Over his lifetime, he taught in eight high schools in the midwest, including Lagro High School. In his will, he created a scholarship fund for graduates of each of those high schools.

CFWabash Jennie Wade Scholarship

More than one hundred years ago, Jennie Wade created a scholarship in her words “to benefit mankind.” This scholarship is made to help young men and women continue their education after high school. Wabash County residents under the age of 21 are selected from among applicants who have done as much as possible in helping themselves obtain an education and whose families are unable to provide an education. Scholarships may be used for degrees or career training.

CFWabash Jerry L. Radabaugh Memorial Scholarship

The Jerry Radabaugh Memorial Scholarship supports students who graduate from Southwood High School or Northfield High School and who plan to study engineering, pharmacy, or building construction management. Mr. Radabaugh, whose family established this scholarship in 2007, was a builder and a building trades instructor at Heartland Career Center. He had degrees in civil engineering, architecture, and vocational education. His children, who are also honored by this scholarship endowment, have careers in pharmacy and engineering. Jerry cared deeply about the lives of young people and their education. He was also very devoted to 4-H.

  • Must have a GPA of B+ or better to apply
  • Full-time student planning to study engineering, pharmacy, or building construction management in college

CFWabash Jo's Hope Scholarship

Jo’s Hope is named for Jo Hensley who passed away too soon from cancer. Her loving sisters Janet and Deb and their families created the scholarship in her memory. She was the dietician for Manchester Community Schools and was a great encourager of students. She was a beloved mother, wife, sister, and aunt. She had a sense of humor and a serious concern for everyone around her. The scholarship is awarded to a traditional student who shares Jolene’s personal interests and character traits of honesty, loyalty, humor, and leadership. Other selection criteria include school involvement/ engagement, academic performance, and community service.

Eligibility Requirements

  • A Manchester High School graduate in the current year
  • Graduating from high school with a GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4-point scale
  • A Wabash County resident
  • Pursuing a 2-year or 4-year degree at an accredited public or private institution of higher learning with a concentration in healthcare or health and wellness

CFWabash John and Edith Richards Memorial Scholarship

The Richards were successful business people who owned the former Richards Tire Company on East Market Street in Wabash. They established a generous scholarship trust in 1965, to give back to their community by assisting worthy young residents of Wabash County who will be pursuing post-secondary career training or an academic degree at an accredited educational institution. Recipients are selected on the basis of a desire to continue an education beyond high school and an ability to succeed in education.

CFWabash John L. Eckert Memorial Educational Scholarship

Family and friends of John Eckert established The John L. Eckert Memorial Scholarship Endowment to memorialize the life of John and his dedication to education. Mr. Eckert was Manchester Community School’s superintendent from 1982 to 1992. From 1971 to 1982, he was the superintendent for the Rochester Community School Corporation, and before that Mr. Eckert was a teacher for Huntington Community Schools and for Southwood High School.
