KCCF Reach Higher Scholarship

Key dates & amount Closing 3/1/26

Established by Wil and Kristi Boren as an advised scholarship endowment benefitting Kosciusko County graduates who have overcome learning challenges. Preference is given to students who have an individualized Education Program (IEP).

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Kosciusko County resident
  • Graduate of a high school serving Kosciusko County

Reviewers will consider the following when selecting a recipient:

  • Demonstrated ability to overcome learning challenges*

Preference may be given to:

  • Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Past recipients

*Applicants must provide a brief statement about how they have managed to overcome learning difficulties in order to meet their educational goals.

KCCF Margaret Reafsnyder Memorial Scholarship

This fund was established by Margaret Reafsnyder in her will to provide scholarship assistance to graduates of Warsaw Community High School for the study of pharmacy, nursing, and/or medicine.

KCCF June Reed Nursing Scholarship

This fund was established by the Kosciusko County Nurses Society in memory of Dr. June Reed to provide scholarships to students pursuing nursing. Dr. Reed has an enormous impact on nurses throughout the community and the Hoosier state. She served on the faculty of Indiana University School of Nursing. She pursued ways to improve nursing through legislation and was President-elect of the Indiana State Nurses Association.

KCCF Dave and Diana Reinhart Tuition Scholarship

Key dates & amount Closing 3/1/26

Established by the Estate of Charles David Reinhart for educational scholarships. Specifically, this fund supports graduating high school seniors from Pierceton or Washington Township in Kosciusko County. The scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in education, or electrical, electronic or digital technology - career paths which reflect the interests of both Dave and Diana Reinhart. Dave Reinhart was a self-taught electronics technician and life-long innovator and entrepreneur. Diana held a master's degree in Elementary Education and taught at Pierceton Elementary School.

KCCF B. Franklin and Eleanore Ringle Educational Endowment

The Ringles believed that an advanced education was becoming more important to a successful career at the time they established this fund. The Ringles wanted to aid as many area students as possible in obtaining a college education. B. Franklin Ringle lived from 1887 to 1979. Eleanore Ringle lived from 1899 to 1989.

KCCF Sacred Heart Scholarship Fund for Post-Secondary Education

This fund was established by Father Terry Fisher to assist an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, who is a graduate or a senior student of an area high school, in obtaining an undergraduate college or vocational degree.

 Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church
  • Pursuing certificate/license, associate or bachelor degree

KCCF Lyn Sasso Memorial Scholarship

Friends and family established this fund in memory of Lyn Sasso, who passed away unexpectedly. Lyn was active in Tri Kappa and enjoyed tennis and bridge. Scholarship awards are given to deserving students from area high schools to achieve their educational dreams.

KCCF Dr. Richard Sasso Memorial Veterinarian Scholarship

Key dates & amount Closing 3/1/26

Established by the family of Dr. Richard Sasso in his memory to provide scholarships to Kosciusko County students who are pursuing studies in veterinary/animal sciences. Dr. Sasso was born in Panama. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University and opened Sasso Veterinary Hospital in Warsaw in 1966. He was a founding member of the Warsaw Rotary Club.

 Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Graduate of a high school serving Kosciusko County
  • Field of Study: Veterinary/Animal Science

 Reviewers will consider the following when selecting a recipient:

  • Maintained an academic standing indicative of success

KCCF Jackie Rae Shilling Tucker Memorial Scholarship

Key dates & amount Closing 3/1/26

Established by Teresa Craig in memory of her aunt, Jackie Rae Shilling Tucker, to provide scholarships for graduates of Warsaw Community High School who participated in the high school choir, demonstrate financial need, maintain a C average or above, demonstrate community involvement or work a part-time job, and who are family oriented.

 Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

KCCF Karo Smith Coy Nursing Scholarship

KCCF Richard and Gladys Stewart Nursing Scholarship

This fund was created through a trust established by Richard and Gladys Stewart. Richard and Gladys operated a successful venetian blind and drapery business in Lansing, Michigan. They retired to Mentone in 1976 to be nearer to Gladys' family. Gladys wanted to establish a nursing scholarship because she was proud of her nieces, who became nurses.

KCCF Coach David Stookey Memorial Scholarship

Established by Linda Stookey, Eric Stookey and Lisa McAdam to provide support for educational scholarships. Specifically, this fund supports Wawasee High School graduates who attend a public or private institution, or vocational, technical or trade school. David Stookey was a longtime, well-loved cross country and track coach at Wawasee High School. His wife, Linda, and his children, Eric and Lisa, created this fund to celebrate his life and perpetuate his legacy.

KCCF Jaden Stout Memorial Scholarship

Jaden Stout lived a lot of life in his 13 years. He was a student at Edgewood Middle School where he played baritone in the school band and enjoyed cheering on the Warsaw Tigers basketball team. He loved animals, racing, and playing video games. After Jaden died unexpectedly of natural causes, on July 9, 2013, his family created a scholarship in his memory. It is awarded to a male student who attended Edgewood Middle School with preference given to a student who is interested in Information Technology, Veterinary Science, or Automotive Studies.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Male
  • Attended Edgewood Middle School for at least one year

Preference may be given to:

  • Those who may not have excelled academically, but showed evidence of turning their life around
  • Those with a “C” average or above
  • Those pursuing studies in Computer/Information Technology, Veterinary Science or Automotive Studies
  • Those who demonstrate financial need

Applicants must answer an additional essay question about academic obstacles they have had to overcome.

KCCF Sue Sutton Memorial Scholarship

Vivian Sue Sutton served as a scholarship volunteer with the Kosciusko County Community Foundation for many years. She worked at Zimmer as a receptionist, and was an avid IU basketball fan. When she passed away on February 14, 2012, many family members and friends contributed to this scholarship fund as a way to honor her memory.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Graduate of a high school serving Kosciusko County
  • GPA: “C” average or above
  • Attending school in Indiana

Preference may be given to:

  • Children or step-children of Zimmer employees
  • Those pursuing an orthopedic-related field of study or a career within the orthopedic industry

KCCF Max Truex Memorial Scholarship

Key dates & amount Closing 3/1/26

Memorial gifts from friends and family of Max Truex made this scholarship fund possible. It is awarded annually to a senior from Warsaw Community High School, with preference given to students who participated in track. Max was a runner for Warsaw Community High School and a two-time Olympian, competing in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics. He died at the age of 55 after battling Parkinson's disease for 15 years.

 Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Kosciusko County resident
  • Graduating seniors of Warsaw Community High School
  • GPA: “B” average or above
  • Participated in high school athletics

 Reviewers will consider the following when selecting a recipient:

  • Demonstrate good character as evidenced by recommendations

KCCF Everett and Ethel Vandermark Scholarship

Established by Ethel Vandermark to provide scholarship assistance to graduates of local high schools in Kosciusko County to pursue medical training. Ethel worked as a book keeper and office manager for Kosciusko County REMC for many years. Everett was a farmer. They were married 50 years. Mrs. Vandermark was also the original donor of the Good Samaritan Fund, which provides financial assistance to those suffering from a medical condition.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Kosciusko County resident
  • Graduate of a public high school in Kosciusko County
  • Field of Study: Health
  • Demonstrates financial need

Reviewers will consider the following when selecting a recipient:

  • Likelihood to achieve a degree or skill in the medical profession

KCCF Fleda C. Vandeveer Educational Endowment Fund

Ms. Vandeveer attained degrees from both Manchester College and Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she graduated seventh in her class. She was a grade school teacher for more than 35 years. Her generosity in providing the gift that created this endowment will help numerous students, with preference given to students from Milford who are pursuing teaching as a career.

KCCF Thomas R. Walter and Anne Marie Walter Educational Endowment

This fund was established by Thomas R. and Anne Marie Walter to assist students in obtaining education at accredited colleges and universities. Both Tom and Anne were very community-minded, participating in many community activities including Warsaw Presbyterian Church and Warsaw Rotary Club. For many years they owned Walter Drug Store.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • High school graduate (excludes those who received a GED)

KCCF Steve Watson Aviation Scholarship

Established by Rebecca Watson, in memory of her husband Steve Watson, to provide scholarships for students studying for a career in aviation.

KCCF Carl N. Wendel Scholarship

This fund was created by Carl N. Wendel as part of his estate planning to help Kosciusko County residents, with preference given to those pursuing training to become a diesel mechanic, auto mechanic, motorcycle mechanic, small engine mechanic or auto repair service manager. The fund may also assist those seeking to improve and update skills in order to enhance their employment opportunities. Mr. Wendel owned W&W Truck Sales in Warsaw.

 Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Kosciusko County resident
  • Demonstrates financial need

Preference may be given to: (in order of priority)

  1. Those pursuing education and/or training to become a diesel mechanic, auto mechanic, motorcycle mechanic, small engine mechanic or auto repair service manager
  2. Those pursuing education in any trade such as HVAC, carpentry or plumbing
  3. Those pursuing job retraining and/or new or different skills necessitated by loss of the individual’s job as a result of mergers or downsizing at the individual’s former employer
  4. Those seeking to enter the job market for the first time or after a sustained period of lack of significant full-time employment due to health reasons, the raising of children and/or care of an aged or ill relative
  5. Those pursuing any other non-traditional reasonable education leading to a recognized degree or certificate of completion
  6. Those pursuing traditional college or university education
