Description

Ataya Kaser was just 14 years old when her life was tragically cut short in a car accident on October 7, 2018. Ataya had a passion for helping others and had planned to volunteer with Safe Haven Baby Boxes. To honor her memory and carry forward her dreams, Safe Haven Baby Boxes established the Ataya Kaser Scholarship Fund. Each year, students in their senior year of high school and college students are eligible to apply for her scholarship that educates the public on the Safe Haven Law in some capacity.

The task:

Write a letter to a legislator advocating for legislation to be amended to allow for Safe Haven Baby Boxes. Use your voice to explain the impact of having baby boxes in communities to protect vulnerable women and their infants.

Your letter can be generic allowing it to be used in any state that Safe Haven Baby Boxes is seeking to amend the current safe haven law. Even if your letter is not selected as the scholarship recipient Safe Haven Baby Boxes reserves the right to use your submission for advocacy efforts.

Stories of infant abandonment are encouraged to be featured highlighting the dangerous reality when mothers clearly do not want to be identified.

All applications must be submitted by July 15 to be considered for the scholarship.
