Funding Opportunity Details
The Gene L. and Bertha J. King Scholarship Endowment was created to honor the lives of Gene LaVere and Bertha Jane King. Mr. King’s career in the electricity industry spanned more 45 years and began with Wabash County REMC in 1963. Gene worked for the State of Indiana in job training and instruction before joining the Brownstown Electric Supply Company in 1983 where he served the company for 29 years as the northern Indiana sales representative. Mr. King was also a member of the U.S. Army and served in Germany for 11 months. The Kings, who were residents of Wabash County, wish to allow more students the opportunity to further their careers by helping to alleviate some of the financial burden of attending college. Selection of candidates is based on financial need, academic performance, religious activities, and a written statement.
