This fund was created by Carl N. Wendel as part of his estate planning to help Kosciusko County residents, with preference given to those pursuing training to become a diesel mechanic, auto mechanic, motorcycle mechanic, small engine mechanic or auto repair service manager. The fund may also assist those seeking to improve and update skills in order to enhance their employment opportunities. Mr. Wendel owned W&W Truck Sales in Warsaw.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:
- Kosciusko County resident
- Demonstrates financial need
Preference may be given to: (in order of priority)
- Those pursuing education and/or training to become a diesel mechanic, auto mechanic, motorcycle mechanic, small engine mechanic or auto repair service manager
- Those pursuing education in any trade such as HVAC, carpentry or plumbing
- Those pursuing job retraining and/or new or different skills necessitated by loss of the individual’s job as a result of mergers or downsizing at the individual’s former employer
- Those seeking to enter the job market for the first time or after a sustained period of lack of significant full-time employment due to health reasons, the raising of children and/or care of an aged or ill relative
- Those pursuing any other non-traditional reasonable education leading to a recognized degree or certificate of completion
- Those pursuing traditional college or university education
