Description

This fund was established by Maria Oler and her brothers Felipe J. Lopez and Juan J. Lopez in memory of their parents, Felipe and Azucena Lopez. This fund will provide scholarship assistance to needy and deserving students who are pursuing a postsecondary education at an accredited college, university or technical school with preference given to students pursuing degrees in Spanish education, translation, medical studies or other human services.

 Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Kosciusko County resident
  • Citizen or legal resident of the United States
  • Graduate of a high school serving Kosciusko County
  • GPA: “B-“ average or above
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Completed at least 3 years of Spanish at the high school level or tested out of the equivalent

 Reviewers will consider the following when selecting a recipient:

  • Demonstrated work ethic
  • Participation in service for community work demonstrated by active involvement in church, civic, nonprofit service or youth group organizations

 Preference may be given to:

  • Those pursuing degrees in Spanish education, translation, medical studies or other human services

Applicants must provide an additional essay response about overcoming challenges and how pursuing freedom through education will impact their future.

This scholarship is administered by the Kosciusko County Community Foundation.
