The Alfred R. and Joyce E. Gutstein Nursing Scholarship was established as a memorial to him by his wife Joyce. Alfred was a prominent attorney in Angola where he practiced for over 50 years. He was an attorney for the Welfare Department for over 40 years, past president and board member of Cameron Memorial Community Hospital and an active Rotarian. Joyce is a registered nurse, and a major organizer of the Well Child Clinic in Angola. She was also instrumental in starting Santa's Helpers. The Steuben County Community Foundation administers this scholarship.
Applicant must be a Steuben County resident, a graduating senior from Angola High School with a 3.0+ GPA (excluding Valedictorian and Salutatorian), and enrolled in a 4-year baccalaureate nursing program. Nontraditional students seeking an advanced nursing degree may apply. Financial need is considered. If no eligible applicant applies, past recipients may reapply, or any baccalaureate nursing student may apply.
